Clear Lake Houston
Clear Lake is a master planned community located just 35
minutes south of Houston off of 45. Clear Lake is the second
largest master planned community in Houston.
Clear Lake is adjacent to NASA's Johnson Space Center, as
well as other major aerospace companies—including Lockheed
Martin and Boeing. The community and its adjacent areas have
a high concentration of engineers due to both NASA and the
local petrochemical industries.
The master planned community was named Clear Lake City for a
lake south of the Johnson Space Center that separates
Galveston County from Harris County.
The Clear Lake area habitually pumps millions into Houston's
economy, but this small town, located 35 minutes south on
Interstate 45, is the gateway to the activity-rich Kemah
Boardwalk and Galveston Bay areas.
The Kemah Boardwalk offers a variety of games, from skee
ball to knocking over milk jugs with balls, as well as a
train that goes around most of the area and abundant rides
for children and adults. It tends to get really busy on warm
days, but the prices are reasonable, as are the cuisines.
The Boardwalk features assorted shopping options, including
gift shops and miscellaneous shops. Music acts perform in
the large common space next to the Aquarium all weekend when
the weather's nice.
More notably, the Clear Lake area is serviced by the Clear
Creek Independent School District, which has been honored as
a "Recognized" school district for six consecutive years.
For a district that serves more than 25,000 students, this
is the highest rating afforded in Texas Education Agency
history. The cost of living in the Clear Lake area is
considerably lower than most Houston suburbs, right around
the national average.
