Heights Houston
One
of Houston’s first master planned communities, the Heights
area is largely residential. There is a large boulevard in
the center with a jogging trails surrounding a large park.
Walking, jogging, biking and skating are all common past
times for residents who live here. Because of its proximity
to downtown, the Heights is an appealing neighborhood for
professionals who desire a short commute. While the housing
prices are more moderate when compared to other neighboring
area, the Heights is a great place for starter homes.
However, keep in mind that although the homes are priced
reasonably, they can sometimes be particularly small. The
Heights has many 1000 square feet cottages. There are also
bungalows that have 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. They are very
beautiful homes that have been tediously restored and
“brought back to life” by their owners. The Victorian homes
are usually larger in size and price. New construction is
mostly Victorian or New Orleans style. Both old and new
housing is priced from about $140-$270 per square feet with
most modern conveniences included. You will find home prices
ranging from approximately the low $200's to $1,000,000+.
Huge mature trees and lovely parks add to the charm of the
Heights. From the Southeast side of the Heights you can see
the downtown skyline from many of the two story homes. The
Heights is very much like a small town in the city.
Populated by many of Houston's artists, this neighborhood
welcomes self expression. I recommend to those who are
considering making the Heights their home to bring a bike
and take a ride along the streets. Five minutes to downtown,
the Heights has been a great investment in the recent past
and there seems to see no decline in sight. Small shops and
galleries make up the commerce areas along with several very
good restaurants. The Heights is a unique old neighborhood
that is now a superb place to call home in the heart of the
city.
