Midtown Houston
Houston’s
Midtown neighborhood is a pedestrian-oriented urban
community that is uniquely positioned in the heart of the
city. Midtown’s location is its principal advantage and
attraction. It is located directly between Downtown and the
Texas Medical Center. Midtown Houston is a residential area
that serves the two largest employers in the Houston region
with more than 200,000 jobs. There are five colleges and
universities close by with combined enrollments of over
50,000 students. Midtown is an excellent location for
medical and hospital staff, faculty, college staff and
students who seek housing near these institutions.
Midtown continues to grow and thrive with both new
construction and restoration of historical properties. The
growth and improvements in Midtown are overseen by the
Midtown Redevelopment Authority and the Midtown Management
District with the support of city government agencies and
public entities.
Midtown’s residential neighborhood is comprised of three
types of housing components: town homes, apartments and
restored historical homes. Midtown is the forerunner of the
recent building trend in terms of inner city development
offering new construction, modern lofts and town homes.
Because of its increasing popularity, Midtown housing prices
are also increasing with apartment rentals starting at
$1100; upscale town home prices ranging from the low 150’s
to the upper 600’s. Historical homes are also being
revitalized for families looking to avoid commuting into the
city.
